| INTRODUCTION | |||
|
Our aim is to create a site focusing on the problems related to the processing of marble, stone, granite, ceramics and glass, in order to establish a continuous dialogue with the users of our silicon carbide and natural diamond grinding wheels. There are countless problems, ranging from geology (types of material for processing) to mechanics (types of machinery and relative movements) and the chemistry of the abrasives (compositions, binders, abrasives, working methods). The main aim of this site will be not so much to create sales opportunities as to establish a real dialogue with users, in order to obtain information about the problems arising before, during and after processing and the use of our grinding wheels. We are counting a great deal on the collaboration of all those involved, and hope that you will use e-mail to contact us where possible. |

| DEDICATION | |||
|
I dedicate this web-site to my uncle, Giuseppe Brotini, who has now passed away but who was proprietor of FIDAL, as well as its founder and driving spirit, teaching us in our youth everything we needed to produce high quality grinding wheels and introduce technological innovations, freeing Italy from its technical dependence on Germany, then the sole producer of grinding wheels. I am talking about 50 years ago, when this modest but highly intelligent man set out on his career. All those with any technological know-how in the field of grinding wheels today owe their expertise to him. I could mention the many names of those who owe everything to this man, but it appears unnecessary since the professionals and those involved are well aware that everything they use and exploit they learnt from this man. Our company owes everything it is able to do and will be able to do to my uncle; I thank him again. Vincenzo Biggi |

| PRESENTATION | |||
We are a small family business, highly committed, at the IT state of the art, with fine technology in the field of grinding wheels for marble, stone, granite, ceramics and glass: we can state without fear of contradiction that everything modern and innovative to be found in our sector originates from our company. All those who have used what we have produced, both those who have copied well and those who have copied badly, owe everything that now seems common practice (synthetic, self-locking, toroidal, modular, NC polishing, glass/granite polishing) to our dedication to constant improvement. Our company's owners are Mr Vincenzo Biggi (who writes this) and Mrs Laura Strozzi, his wife. The average age of our staff is under 40 years; five employees work in the offices, three deliver grinding wheels and supply technical assistance on customers' premises, and the others in production, the warehouse and the workshop.
In view of the twenty years' experience at FIDAL, in '57-'58 at Verona (S. Michele extra) in Sicily, Puglia and Calabria ('58-'69) and in '69-'73 in Carrara), we are now able to draw both on human experience relating to knowledge of the zones mentioned and technological expertise, since during the various periods we have had the opportunity of getting to know the materials produced locally (lava, Perlato di Sicilia, Pietra di Comiso, Trani, Travertino, Bianchi Carrara, Rosso Verona, Pietra dAurisina
) With the aid of the marble processors, this experience allows us to deal with any problem relating to the smoothing and polishing of any type of material, achieving results such that the edges polished with our grinding wheels have a greater shine than that produced on the surface of the same slab by other operators. To attain this, by e-mail we are able to send assembly charts for the various machines and the various working methods, bearing in mind the customers' needs, for different types of stone, assembly charts containing all the characteristics of the suitable grinding wheels, including the working condition (pressure, speed etc.), as you will see in the "Quotations and Assembly Charts for Frankfurt Segmental Wheels and Grinding Wheels". Moreover, our company is already equipped for digital video-conferences and is preparing for the computerised filing of documents and video-telematch warehouse accounting. |

| IMPORTANT NOTE | |||
|
Although our company collaborates closely with the manufacturers of marble processing machinery, it has intentionally never dealt in or sold machines of any kind, in order to retain its freedom and impartiality in relation to the problems they create when users encounter difficulties in using them. Many manufacturers mistakenly believe that we are linked to specific companies by special interests: nothing could be further from the truth. As we have stated above, our aim is to solve problems with our grinding wheels, but if we are unable to do so, we wish to be free to say what we think about the machines, because we have not received a commission on them. And the same applies to everyone working for us.
